Changes to the Building Fire Safety Regulations from 13/02/2025
Changes to Fire Safety Regulations
Valen Project Services have successfully delivered the restoration of the Heritage Windows at The Hotel Orient in The Rocks, Sydney. Heritage Building work always comes with challenges, and the feature Curved windows on the first & second floor of The Hotel Orient are one of them. Both levels required significant restoration works with the first floor bottom sash irrevocably deteriorated, meaning a complete remake to match the original was required.
Historical Notes:
“This site was in the original grounds of Sydney’s first hospital complex and later was enclosed by fencing to become a part of the Surgeon General’s residence.”
“….bought by the carcass butcher James Chapman in February 1842 for £1101. It was Chapman who erected, probably in 1842, a three-storey residence of ten rooms and a neighbouring single storey shop, which were the first stage of what evolved over the nineteenth century into the Orient Hotel.” For more information on this historic site see reference: Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority (SHFA) Conservation Register
The results speak for themselves, and the newly restored windows are as good as the day they were first installed. Valen Project Services are experienced Heritage Specialists and our team continue to strive for excellence in the delivery of these unique and exciting projects.
We wish to thank the client team, including CBRE Asia Pacific and Weir Phillips Heritage and Planning, for a great project. We look forward to continuing to work together on projects into the future.
